A Partnership Formed

In November 2009, the local PetSmart had its grand opening at the Creekside Shopping Center of New Braunfels. When PetSmart was establishing its move here to New Braunfels, the New Braunfels Humane Society was asked to be their primary adoption partner.

As their primary adoption partner we are allotted nine kennels to utilize in the cat adoption center at PetSmart. Our cats stay at PetSmart 24 hours a day, seven days a week, where they are able to get additional exposure. It is at the PetSmart adoption cat adoption area where potential adopters are able to spend time with these cats and interact in an isolated area before deciding on the perfect pet. These kennels provide comfort and space for the cats to climb around and are also capable of being made into “deluxe” kennels where the cats have 2 kennels combined to play and exercise.

The Results Are In

Working with PetSmart has proven to be well worth the effort and very effective in the placement of not only our adoption cats but also our adoption dogs. While our cats have an everyday presence at PetSmart, our dogs get a monthly opportunity to be in the spotlight.

One day each month we transport our adoptable dogs to PetSmart and set up a kennel site where the dogs are able to greet customers heading into the store and welcome everyone. We also take the dogs out of the kennels and walk them around the store and outside in the designated areas so that they are able to catch potential adopters eyes. By giving these animals more than one venue for means of adoption, we have just about doubled our monthly adoptions by partnering with PetSmart.

This partnership also gave the New Braunfels Humane Society the opportunity to participate in the “National Adoption Weekend” where an extra incentive was placed on every adoption during the week leading into this PetSmart Charities national event.

Where better to hold adoptions than at PetSmart? Not only is the environment new and refreshing, but also inviting. Once you've found the right pet for you, you don't have to “stray” very far, as you're already in the perfect place to get the basic essentials for your new family member.
