All Animals Make sure your animals have current rabies tags attached to their collars. (It's the Law) Dogs/Puppies Puppies will chew and nibble due to teething. Provide a lot of toys and rawhides. This will also keep them from getting bored (destructive). Puppies and some dogs will need to be house broken. Please be patient with this step. This can be the most upsetting for not only the adoption parent but also the pet. Crate training and or puppy pads will help make house breaking easier. Remember to puppy proof your house. Puppies are fast and will chew on items not necessarily meant for them. Watch out for power cords, cleaning supplies, and small objects they can swallow. Make sure that your fence is in good condition. Good fences not only keep your new found friend at home, it also keeps unwanted animals from entering your yard. Cats/Kittens If you're adopting a cat or kitten, remember to show them where the litter box is as soon as you get home. You might have to show them a few times until they learn where it is. Keep your cat or kitten inside for at least two weeks. This gives them time to adjust to their new surroundings. If you decide to have an outside cat remember it must stay on your property. Remember to have a scratching posts for your cat, this will deter them from scratching furniture.
