Before You Adopt

Adoption of animals from an Animal Shelter can and should be a wonderful experience. Please keep in mind that an animal is a life time commitment. With these few tips the bond between you and your new pet will be very rewarding.

Things to Know

  • Adopter's must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Adopter's must have a current driver's license.
  • Adopter's that rent must show a lease agreement that will allow them to own a pet. If a pet deposit is required the Adopter must pay the fee and bring proof the day of adoption. Most apartments have weight limits on animals allowed at the complex. The Humane Society honors their concerns and will follow recommendations.
  • Adopter's interested in adopting a dog over 25lbs must have a secure fenced in yard.
  • The Humane Society will not adopt out animals as a gift unless the new owner is present at the adoption.
  • The Humane Society will not "reserve" or "put on hold" any animal that is up for adoption. Adoption is on a first come first serve basis.
